Alexandra Felder - Russian, pianist and wife of the filmmaker - grows up in Soviet Tajikistan, goes to Moscow as a teenager, studies piano and graduates. Afterwards the situation becomes more and more difficult, Alexandra leaves the USSR and lives in Germany. Almost 20 years later, filmmaker Christoph Felder documents a family trip to Ryazan to her grandparents and then to Crimea, which is annexed by Russia. RUSSIAN HOMES is a documentary film that describes the subjective point of view of Alexandra Felder and the filmmaker of the public image of Russia. The film recounts the point of view of Alexandra Felder of the breakdown of the Soviet Union and its aftermath. It is suffused with imperialist thinking that has been running rampant in Russia - not only in the ruling elite but also among many ordinary Russians both in Russia itself and abroad. The film is musically carried by Alexandra's piano playing, a Crimean orchestra and Igor Butman, one of the best saxophonists in the world who has no problem with cozying up to Vladimir Putin.
