What was life like for Lesbians in communist East Germany? Meet Christiane from Berlin, Carola from Dresden, Pat from rural Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania, Elke from the city of Halle and long-term couple Sabine and Gisela, who today live a quiet life in Saxony-Anhalt. UFERFRAUEN tells their stories. The women talk candidly about their up-bringing and their everyday life in the long-defunct socialist German republic. They describe their struggles for self-determination and fulfilment, first love and unconventional family and life planning. All of them came into conflict either with their families or the state and had to overcome prejudice and outright hostility on their way to personal happiness.
