A library on four legs - the only camel library in the world exists in northern Kenya. Past giraffes and antelopes, a heavily loaded caravan of dromedaries regularly carries reading material into the impassable savannah. Children and adults of the Muslim nomadic peoples wait longingly in their huts made of wood and dung for the desert ships. They greedily leaf through schoolbooks, novels and comic books under acacia trees. 400 kilometres away from the capital Nairobi, the local librarians are still struggling with illiteracy, outdated traditions, lack of money, blazing sun and - stubborn camels... It is the story of children thirsting for knowledge, an emerging book, a camel and an unusual librarian in the heart of Africa in the middle of the UNESCO World Literacy Decade.
